I have wrapped up the pages for the purpose of the class as of 12/8/2011. The client approved of all of the changes I made with the understanding that much more work needed to be completed after the quarter is completed.
Many of the current links currently link to a "Coming Soon" page to indicate that that particular page is still being developed. The completed project will ultimately have in upwards of 20 pages, but for the purpose of the class I stopped with around half of that.
You will enter the site through the home page. That page has three simple image links that will bring the viewer to the website, the Facebook page or the blog that the client plans to develop in the near future. If you click into the website you will come to a secondary home page that give a small description of the business and contains an automatic slide show that will ultimately have many images from each of the categories that the photographer shoots.
Clicking into the galleries gives a brief description of that particular service and offers a slide show that shows examples of the photographers shots in that category. You will eventually be able to see the photo documentaries that the photographer has completed. The final pages are the informational pages that list prices for service, information about the shoot date, and information about the photographer.
Finally the photographer shoots at an extremely high resolution. For the purpose of the website the pictures had to be drastically reduced in size. I took each image that I used on the site and used Photo Shop to first reduce the image to 500PX either vertically or horizontally depending on the orientation of the image. I then reduced it further to 50PX to create the thumbnails for the slide shows.
Going forward the client and I determined that for the purpose of the website the photographer would created the reduced images that she wants to use at the time that she is editing the photos from a shoot.
For the time being the site will be published on my UCFilespace site. The client plans to register the domain JJKorczykPhotography.com, JJKPhotography.com, or JJKorczykPhoto.com and host the site through one of the hosting businesses like GoDaddy or NetworkSolutions.

Getting toward the end.
We are getting close to the end of the design for this site. I met with the client earlier this week and got the approval on the final layout for the page. The client was really excited to see it on her screen.
Early on in this process the client gave me a list of pages that she would require. She wants what she was calling a cover page that had a slightly different layout than the rest of the site. This page would just have her logo and picture links to the website, her blog, and her Facebook page.
If you click into the site this would bring you to the index page with the menus and links to all of the pages.
The first group of pages were her gallery pages that showcase the work she has done. The pages are as follows:
Families-
All encompassing, fun sessions! Everyone will take part in having a great time--a peek inside the special bond that makes a family.
Kiddos-
Getting down on the ground and capturing the essence of tiny souls thriving in front of the lens.
Seniors-
Taking four years of high school and closing that chapter with a character and pizazz.
Glam-
Feeling like a star today?
E-sessions-
Allow every little bit of your love--quirky, undeniable, no-holds-bar love shine through. Celebrate a new commitment for life.
Weddings-
Snapshots of a day full of love, cake and memories. Cheers!

Continued development
Over the last week the client and I met again and discussed the progress of the sight. She refined the way that the menus would be categorized for the site as a whole. The client decided that it would be best to have all of the categories listed, but if she hasn't organized photos for a gallery yet, we would sent the link to a "coming soon" page.
She also said that she would like to main categories pages to link to a table of contents page. For example, one of the main categories is called "photo documentaries" This button would link to a page that has a table of contents that would link to the individual gallery page for each documentary. The table of contents page will have a brief description of the page it is linking to with some kind of a "teaser" picture.

Questions for the client
This post will discuss the questions I asked the client about the preferences for their professional website. The list of questions are in bold as follows with the answers that were given to me:
Can you tell me what you are looking for in a website?
Being a photography business, I feel I want the site to be bold and visual. I think I would like a mostly black background. I would like the logo that I am giving you to be in a large circle in the corner with the large "JJ" in a bright pink color.
Looking at other photography websites, I like the interactive slide shows that many of the other sites use. I would also like for my site to appear to be one page, with the only thing that changes being the slide show and information int the box on that page.
(At this point I pointed out that many of the slide shows that she was referring to are done in flash, and I may not be able to provide that for her, but I could give her a slide show that meets her needs for now, with the intent to upgrade the site to the flash at a later date.)
Let's talk about the colors a bit more. Do you want a black base image to be the background, or would you prefer just solid black?
I think and image that is mostly black, but has some grey highlights. I mainly want to the focus to be drawn to the logo and the box with the slide show.
(At this point I opened up Adobe Illustrator and we came up with a solid black back ground with a grey oval gradient as a starting point. She said to use that as a place holder for now and we will see she wants something different when she sees a more complete page.)
I next asked about the layout. What are you looking for?
Over the black background, I want a box that resembles a postcard. I want the bold logo in the upper left hand corner. Finally the "postcard box" will be centered on the bottom half of the page, and it will have the images. The key is that I don't want the page to be more than one screen on most computers. The only thing I want to change as you navigate through the site is the information and images that are in the "postcard box."
Finally I asked about the exact colors. I brought up a website that had web safe color codes and asked her to pick.
The colors she chose were as follows:
background: #000000
background highlights: #999999
Postcard box: #FFFFFF to an off white. She wants to evaluate this more when there is a working demo.
She also wants to pick the text colors and all at a later date.
This is where we left the meeting for now, with the agreement that we would pick it up when I had a working model.

Meeting with the client.
This blog will be used as a journal for the creation of a professional website for my Web Publishing class at University of Cincinnati, Clermont College.
For starters, the client is a photographer based in the Cincinnati area, and has been wanting to get a website designed for a few years. This site needs to graphically heavy to give a true representation of the photographs that she takes. This website will be used as an online portfolio for potential clients.
The fist step was to create a list of initial interview questions that would help guide me in the direction that she wanted the website to go. My next post will go over the questions I present in the meeting and the answer the client provided me.
